We are creating a Voki!

There is a lot of excitement in our room right now. Today, I introduced the students to Vokis. A Voki is an avatar that you can create. The students will be able to create their own and then type in whatever they want the Voki to say. Our first assignment will be for their Voki to tell everyone what steps are needed to write an great extended response for our ISAT questions. Be sure to check back later this week to see what each one of the student's has done!

Crater Lake

This morning in our reading class, we learned about Crater Lake in Oregon. It is absolutely beautiful. Our assignment was to become a detective and read a short two page story in our Sleuth books. I have to say that they two pages just weren't enough. We then went online and looked at the website for Crater Lake. Just when we were ready to finish up with that, Mrs. Sisler walked in. She had actually been to Crater Lake so she was able to share some information about her trip with us. I love to see the students get involved with what we are learning! Today they did just that!

Oh no!!

I came in to school over our three day weekend to find that none of our tadpoles were living. I'm not sure what happened. Perhaps it was too cold in here while we were all at home. I'm going to have to do a little research. Don't worry though - I have promised the students that we will try again. Let's hope next time we have better luck - much better!

Fire Bellied Toads

This past week our high school biology teacher, Mrs. Einsweiler, asked me if we would like to try to raise some frogs in our classroom. Of course I said YES! So, as of now, our frog eggs are in the middle of hatching into tadpoles. In the next week or so we should see many more. I believe the tadpoles stay in that stage for about 5 weeks. If things progress the way they look right now, we will have more than we know what to do with! Don’t be surprised if you child asks if they can have one! Check back soon for pictures!

Partial Product Multiplication

Today, we learned how to multiply bigger numbers using the Partial Product algorithm. The students absolutely loved it! Be sure to ask your child to show you how it is done.

Thank you to the Elizabeth and Hanover Fire Departments for coming in and reviewing some safety tips today. It is always great to have days like this. In the station below, the children practiced Stop,Drop, Cover, and Roll. Their assignment is to check with their parents tonight and find out where their meeting spot is.
This year we also were able to see the inside of an ambulance. We had a volunteer lay on the stretcher. While she was there, the EMTs checked her breathing and heart rate. They also put a c-collar on her. She was a trooper throughout the entire time.

Ask any 4th grader about our trip today, and I think they will all tell you it was a great one! I'm adding SEVERAL pictures. 4th Grade Conservation Day was certainly a success!
Below, you will see our class picture. It was a beautiful day!
All in all, it was a great day!
